Position Overview
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization's financial operations through accurate and timely accounting activities. This role plays a key part in maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial reports, assisting with month-end close, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Financial Reporting
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare supporting schedules for internal and external reporting.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Process vendor invoices and employee expense reports as needed.
- Assist with payment runs and vendor inquiries.
- Support AR activities including invoicing, payment application, and collections follow-up.
Reconciliations
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Compliance & Audit Support
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Assist with annual financial audits by preparing required documentation.
Process Improvement
- Recommend and implement process enhancements to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Support automation and system improvement efforts within the finance team.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 1-3 years of accounting experience preferred (internships included).
- CPA or CPA track a plus.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of GAAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas).
- Experience with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics) preferred.
